Summer Camps

This summer, SBMA is offering seven weeks of in-person art camp at the Ridley-Tree Education Center at McCormick House. Children spend their day immersed in hands-on art making and creative problem solving, while being inspired by original works of art from the Museum’s collection and special exhibitions.

Summer Camp – Sculpture (Ages 5 – 6)

June 17 – 21, 2024 (Monday – Friday)
9 am – 3 pm

Use wire, wood, clay, and other mixed-media materials to build a variety of sculptures, inspired by some of the Museum’s favorite 3-D works. Mix it up by adding color, changing medium, or making still images move while exploring scale, balance, gravity, and surface texture.

Sew, weave, dye, and embroider reimagined works in the Museum’s collection using fabric, felt, and repurposed textiles. Experiment with different printmaking techniques and the magic of making multiples from inked plates, blocks, and found objects.

Summer Camp – Re-Made: Art & Sustainability (Ages 7 – 9)

July 8 – 12, 2024 (Monday – Friday)
9 am – 3 pm

Play with line, shape, color, and composition as you stitch, assemble, and paint using recycled materials and found objects. Campers will discover new ways of re-making as they design textile pieces from scrap fabric, print on reclaimed materials, and create sketchbooks from discarded books, all inspired works of art in the Museum’s collection.

Spend the morning in the clay lab learning the basic techniques of throwing pottery at the wheel in a fun and relaxed environment, making simple clay forms and experimenting with surface decoration and glazing techniques. After lunch, head to the Re-Made Workshop to create by combining, reusing, and repurposing materials into unexpected projects inspired by works of art in the Museum’s collection.
