The Santa Barbara Museum of Art presents internationally recognized collections and exhibitions and a broad array of cultural and educational activities. The Museum's Education Department is seeking a Department and Programs Assistant. This position reports to Director of Education and is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to the Director of Education and Education Department staff. Primary duties include scheduling docent touring calendars and school programs, filling out event reservations forms, and reserving meeting spaces. Keeps departmental statistics and archival information for the Department and does weekly accounting, check requests and monthly credit card statements; works with department staff in preparing and submitting payment requests and professional service agreements. Assists department staff in providing information to members of the public, teachers, Museum staff, and docents regarding education programs, activities and events. Assists with the organization and implementation of education events and public and community and school programs. Provides general office and clerical support.
Requires 2 – 3 years general administrative/clerical knowledge, computer literacy (Microsoft Office--PowerPoint, Excel, Word), along with strong organizational skills, good writing skills, ability to work well with people, and must be comfortable with multi-tasking. Experience with arts programming and dealing with the public preferred. BA desired, preferably with some background in art education or art history. Availability to occasionally work weekend hours and evenings required. Bi-lingual fluency (Spanish-English) desired.
