Summer Art Camp 2019
Thank you for your interest in the Museum’s Teaching Assistant (TA) program! TA positions are for 15 –18 year olds interested in art and/or working with children. Our TA positions are on a volunteer basis and count toward required community service hours.
During summer break, SBMA offers week-long Ceramics and Art Camps with a variety of activities including painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, and sculpture, structured around different themes at the RTEC. The site offers camps for students ages 5–12 in an atmosphere where creativity, studio art practices, and fun create an enriching experience.
TAs are responsible for assisting the Teaching Artist in the classroom, preparing materials, and helping children with hands-on art making. For summer camp, the minimum volunteer commitment is two weeks and is equivalent to 80 hours of community service credit.
Becoming a TA provides young artists with professional skills in art making and art education. This competitive program includes an orientation, Museum tour, mentoring by a Teaching Artist, and Studio Hours (available upon request). TAs walk away with a solid relationship with the Museum, teaching skills, new art techniques, and more.
