The Santa Barbara Museum of Art presents internationally recognized collections and exhibitions, and a broad array of cultural and educational activities. The Human Resources Coordinator reports to the HR Director, with the responsibility for providing full-spectrum human resources support to this cultural institution of 90 full and part-time employees. The HR Coordinator and Director collaborate on measures to assure the Museum's strategic HR objectives are integrated into the employment experience to enhance engagement while effectively managing the various HR operations including recruiting and new hire orientations, transitions/status changes/terminations, personnel records management, performance evaluation process coordination, health, and welfare benefits administration, billing, and database management, leaves of absence tracking and notifications, policy development and implementation, training and employee relations support. The HR Coordinator will be a key point of contact with employees regarding personnel, benefits, compensation, and human resources processes and assist employees to answer questions and support their requests.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree, and experience with a nonprofit organization or cultural institution is preferred. Two to three years of prior office administrative experience is required, having demonstrated excellent skills and composure when interacting with employees, volunteers, and the public. Current knowledge of principles and practices of human resources management and federal and state employment laws and regulations is helpful. The position requires excellent problem-solving skills; the ability to appropriately prioritize and timely meet multiple deadlines and competing demands while consistently demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail; excellent interpersonal communication skills, the ability to work constructively with individuals at all levels of the organization; excellent judgment and sound decision-making ability; high confidentiality; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with HR database/HRIS (ADP preferred).
- Part-time status (20 hours/week) is eligible for vacation as earned, prorated holiday pay, and paid sick leave up to 32 hours.
