Ages 16 and up

Each four-week beginner throwing class is inspired by a single work of art or collection of objects on display at the Museum. Students will learn how to prep materials, use basic tools, center clay, throw simple forms and to trim and glaze their pieces.

The quilt pattern in Wendy Red Star’s Evening Star II, 2025 and the text art in Jeffrey Sincich’s Injured? Call Now, 2024 featured in the exhibition Remixed: Entwined Histories and New Forms are the inspiration for this class. Students will make stencils and use transfer techniques to apply underglaze designs and text in bold colors. Clear glaze will be applied by the instructor before the final firing.

Week 1: Intro to pottery
