Join multimedia artist Claire Hentschker for a virtual lecture exploring her artistic practice and her work in the exhibition RANDOM-ACCESS MEMORY: Internet Art. Hentschker will discuss her process of mining and reinterpreting digital archives with particular attention to Ghost Coaster: The Star Jet Coaster, 2002–2012, now on view at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. In the film, Hentschker reconstructs found YouTube footage of a destroyed roller coaster from her childhood into a glitchy, dreamlike digital environment. Simultaneously haunting and humorous, her work often treads the line between glittery nostalgia and the cold strangeness of virtual space. 

The lecture will be followed by a live Q&A with attendees.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Claire Hentschker is a Brooklyn-based artist and creative technologist whose work takes materials from the beauty aisle, the grocery store, and the internet and turns them into sculpture, installation, and participatory experiences. She teaches at NYU's Integrated Digital Media program and co-founded LARPA, a DIY artist-run space in Bushwick dedicated to experimental digital culture, where she curates events like Small Batch: A Dataset Farmers Market, THE MOST EVIL COMPUTER EVER malware hackathon, and LARPlympics for real-time livestream manipulation.
