Kids ages 6 – 12 are invited to explore their creativity in this hands-on holiday workshop. Inspired by Piece by Piece: Collage & Assemblage at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and The Impressionist Revolution: Monet to Matisse from the Dallas Museum of Art, young artists will work with clay and weaving to craft unique gifts for friends and family. A day full of color, imagination, and festive spirit awaits.

Projects will include creating a "fable in a bag", inspired by Suchitra Mattai’s the intrepid garden (2023) in Piece by Piece. Young artists will sculpt mini figurines to represent characters in invented fables and weave reclaimed textiles into a small bag to hold the figurines. They will also draw inspiration from the still life paintings in The Impressionist Revolution exhibition and paint their own still life backgrounds on wood as well as create clay sculptures of fruit, flowers, and everyday objects.

Instructor: Luna Vallejo-Howard

Note: Our day-long craft workshops are “drop-off” style workshops! Parents may drop their child off at the beginning of the workshop and pick up no later than 15 minutes after the workshop’s conclusion. Parents are asked to provide a clearly labeled lunch, snack, and water bottle for their child.
