Getaway to L.A. with Nigel McGilchrist
Join SBMA and Nigel McGilchrist on a special overnight trip to Los Angeles for a small group of Museum friends. Head south in our private coach to the Getty Villa, where Nigel will lead us through the exhibition “The Classical World in Context, PALMYRA, Loss & Remembrance," and “Underworld, Imagining the Afterlife." Enjoy refreshments and a tour of a private collection of Californian contemporary art at the home of Jane and Ken Anderson in the Pacific Palisades.
Spend the night in Shutters on the Beach, a luxury Santa Monica beach hotel, set on a pristine stretch of coastline, that blends modern comfort with the ambiance of a classic SoCal retreat, which Condé Nast Traveler calls a “beachfront icon with an enviable art collection.”
The next morning, visit the L.A. Louver Gallery, considered by many to be L.A.’s top contemporary gallery, to receive a private tour of their exhibition of worksby renowned LA artist David Hockney. End the tour with a visit to the Getty Center for lunch and a tour of two exhibitions: “Artful Words: Calligraphy in Illuminated Manuscripts” and “Pontormo: Miraculous Encounters”.
Nigel McGilchrist is SBMA travelers’ favorite study leader. His ability to interpret and disseminate information spellbinds and fascinates his fans.
