Insider’s Greece with Nigel McGilchrist: From the Island of Dionysos to the Island of Aphrodite

Travel with Nigel McGilchrist to his favorite out-of-the-spotlight islands, including his home island of Kythera, a well-kept secret and one of the few genuinely Greek islands as yet completely untouched by mass tourism. Stay on Naxos in the Cyclades, Nafplion and Neapolis in the Peloponnese, Kythera, and Athens. Explore Nigel’s favorite spots in Mycenae, Epidauros, Paros, Nemea, Mystras, and Avlemonas. During a few nights in Athens, mix sites like the fantastic new Acropolis Museum and a newly opened cultural center designed by Renzo Piano, with littleknown gems. This tour combines luxury with Greek simplicity and adventure, all part of the experience. It is created for SBMA Members by Nigel, whose McGilchrist’s Greek Islands was The Economist’s best book of the year when it was released in 2009. Nigel’s touch is on all the arrangements, from the frescoed churches opened for our group to his friends who are our guides on each island, as well as optional hikes to chef-created meals. A highlight will be cocktails at Nigel’s own remote island home while a live band plays traditional Greek music.
