The Himalayas: Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan

The breathtaking beauty and distinct cultures of the Himalayan region have long beckoned adventurous travelers. Visit Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan on this tour that focuses on traditional arts and architecture while exploring the similarities and contrasts of three distinct cultures. Here, prayer flags stretch across the sky and flutter in the wind, their rainbow colors mirroring the vibrant palate of the Himalaya—the stark white temples, the bright blue of the sky, the crimson and saffron of monks’ robes, the rich gold-topped stupas that glitter in the sunlight, and the myriad shades of green that make up the rice paddies.

The tour is based for:
* One night in Beijing at the Regent Hotel, one of the city’s best hotels, well located near
the Forbidden City
* Five nights in Tibet at The St. Regis in Lhasa (3 nights) and Tsedang Hotel in Tsedang (2 nights)
* Two nights in Nepal at Dwarika’s Hotel in Kathmandu
* Six nights in Bhutan at the Taj Tashi in Thimphu, Dhensa Boutique Resort in Punakha,
and Zhiwaling Heritage Hotel in Paro (2 nights each)

The tour ends in Bangkok, offering travelers the option to extend their stay in Thailand.

Custom-designed for SBMA Members, the tour offers a deep look not only into these countries’ delicate and endearing cultures, but also the rich traditions of Buddhist art that is shared across all the countries yet unique in each. Visit remote villages, hidden valleys, and moving religious sites that demonstrate how Buddhism is so tightly woven into the culture.

Tour Guide

Karma Lotey

Top Bhutanese guide Karma Lotey, a favorite of SBMA travelers, will be with the group throughout the tour, while local guides will lead the group in their home countries.

Karma was Bill Weir’s guide on a CNN special on Bhutan about a year ago.  Here is a trailer of the episode.  You will get a feel for how sweet and knowledgeable Karma is by watching it!
