Japan Unveiled A Journey Through Time and Art ~ From Traditional Crafts to Contemporary Expressions with Kendall Brown, Ph.D.

SBMA's highly-anticipated Japan land tour will be led by Asian Art expert Dr. Kendall Brown and a local national guide. It will be based in Kyoto (4 nights), Takamatsu (1 night), Naoshima Island, affectionately known as "The Art Island" (2 nights), and Tokyo (3 nights.) Highlights will include the “art islands” including Naoshima; fantastic museums like the Miho Museum, Hokusai Museum, and the Japan Folk Crafts Museum; meetings with skilled textile, ceramic, and other artisans; and 21_21 Design Sight, a collaboration between architect Tadao Ando and designer Issey Miyake.

This tour is full. Email travel@sbma.net to request the brochure and/or to join the wait list.

As an SBMA-customized, SBMA-exclusive special tour, SBMA Members at the $500 level and above and Curatorial Support Group members will get advanced notice and the first opportunity to sign up, followed by the Early Interest List, then full SBMA Membership if it has not already been filled.
