Spain and Portugal’s Less Traveled Regions

Join SBMA for 11 days on an off-the-beaten path adventure, based at 4- and 5-star hotels in Madrid and the less traveled corners of Spain and Portugal.

Envision the glory of the Roman Empire through the ruins of Segovia's monumental aqueducts and Mérida's stunning theater. Feel the history beneath your feet as you roam the winding medieval streets and quiet squares of old Cáceres. Explore charming villages scattered throughout Portugal's Alentejo region, abundant with cork and olive trees. Enjoy the beauty of Evora, Portugal, which has been consistently touted as one of the best places to visit in Portugal. Visit seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites throughout Évora, Mérida, Cáceres, Toledo, Segovia, and Madrid.

This "value tour" has much included and is offered at a fabulous value. It begins with three nights at the Hotel Wellington in Madrid, continues for four nights at the Parador de Trujillo in the historic city of Cáceres, Spain, and ends with three nights in Vila Viçosa, Portugal at the Alentejo Marmoris Hotel & Spa, part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group. The tour is planned to be exclusive to SBMA Members.

What is a Value Tour?
Value tours offer an educational travel experience to SBMA Members at a lower price point than our other tours. They are put on by a U.S. Tour Operator that specializes in educational travel for members of institutions like ours and university alumni. They operate the same itinerary for various groups, which allows them to offer a smoothly-operated tour, with well-vetted guides, hotels, and activities at a great value. SBMA selects the itineraries we think our travelers will love. Usually there are three talks by guest lecturers. They usually do not include visits to private collections or the special access that some of our other tours offer. The carefully chosen and well-located hotels are usually 4-star hotels—not luxurious but very nice. The group size is often slightly larger to keep the cost down as well, however they are still "small group tours" with the maximum number of participants for most land tours set at 24 (often there are less.) Usually our value tours are exclusive to SBMA; however, if we have low enrollment, we often have the opportunity to partner with other organizations in order to make the trip happen. Unlike our “customized” tours, value tours are not customized by SBMA for the SBMA traveler, but they are carefully selected and matched to the interest of our travelers. They offer a well-rounded educational travel experience with much included at a "great value" and many of our travelers are devotees of these trips.

Tour cost if you reserve by May 1, 2022:

$3,995 per person double occupancy or $4,790 per person single occupancy, plus tax ($395).
