During the Museum’s recent six-year renovation project with many of the galleries closed, the Contemporary collection continued to evolve. This exhibition celebrates some of the outstanding paintings and sculptures added to the collection during that time and builds on Part I (March 22 – December 6, 2020), which featured prints, drawings, and photographs. Part II showcases acquisitions of works by local, national, and international artists but has a focus on the rich milieu of Southern California.

Featured artists: Nigel Cooke, Noah Davis, Wim Delvoye, Daniel Douke, Brad Eberhard, Vernon Fisher, Charles Garabedian, Jack Goldstein, Kees Goudzwaard, Frederick Hammersley, Zach Harris, Mustafa Hulusi, Jim Isermann, Raffi Kalenderian, Edward Kienholz, Eamon Ore-Giron, Cheryl Pope, Sterling Ruby, Jeni Spota, Robert Therrien, and Jane Wilbraham.

This exhibition is made possible through the generosity of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art Women’s Board, Jill and John C. Bishop, Jr., Tracey Willfong-Singh, and The Museum Contemporaries.

This exhibition was organized by Julie Joyce, Senior Curator of Exhibitions, ArtCenter College of Design, with assistance from Rachel Heidenry, Manager of Docent & Academic Programs, SBMA.
