Nordic Magnificence, A Value Tour to Copenhagen, Oslo, and Bergen

June 10 -20, 2018

Scandinavia, rich with fantastic stories and tales of Vikings with a history closely tied to the sea, is dotted with pristine fjords, glacier-covered mountains, crystalline lakes, lush meadows, gently rolling countryside, colorful towns, and bustling cities. Begin with three nights in Copenhagen, Denmark, home to castles, canals, and storybook charm. Tour the Renaissance palace Rosenborg Castle, where Danish royals held court before turning it into a museum in the 1700s. Visit three craftsmen, who follow in the Danish tradition of clean, modern design. Sail through the dramatic Oslo Fjord aboard an overnight ferry cruise to Norway, birthplace of legends about princesses, heroes, and trolls. During two nights in the country's cosmopolitan city of Oslo, learn about its rich culture and Viking history. Travel by rail to Bergen across the Hardangervidda plateau, one of the world’s most scenic rail journeys, at an altitude of 4,000 feet. In charming Bergen, tour King Haakon's Hall, Hanseatic warehouses, Rosenkrantz Tower, and the home of composer Edvard Grieg. Take a day train along the eastern fjords to Myrdal and the Flåm Railway, which travels through the country's most beautiful region to the pristine Aurlandsfjord. Cruise the waters of the Sognefjord to Gudvangen before exploring Voss, with vistas featuring mountains, forests, lakes, and waterfalls. An optional extension to Stockholm, Sweden is offered.
