For travelers drawn to the quieter pleasures of Italy, Umbria offers la bella vita without the crowds of Italy’s best-known destinations.

Unpack once for seven nights in Perugia at the Sina Brufani, a hotel enjoyed by many past SBMA Travelers, and set out each day to discover medieval hill towns, fresco-filled churches, and beautiful landscapes in the less-touristed but deeply rewarding locales of Assisi, Orvieto, Montefalco, Todi, Cortona, and Montepulciano. One day, choose between a day trip to Siena in nearby Tuscany, or a cooking class.

Part of SBMA Travel’s Value Series and scheduled exclusively for SBMA Members, this specially selected program offers an enriching cultural experience at a more accessible price point, with quality accommodations, lectures by guest experts, thoughtful programming, special art touches added by SBMA, and the camaraderie that distinguish traveling with SBMA.

What is a value tour? SBMA's Value Tours offer enriching travel experiences at a lower price point, with quality accommodations and engaging content. Click here to learn more about Value Tours.

This tour is an SBMA Value Tour. A Value Tour offers an educational travel experience to SBMA Members at a lower price point than our other tours.  Key aspects to a Value Tour include:

  • The price is around half the cost of our other tours, on average.
  • Unlike our “customized” tours, value tours are not customized by SBMA for the SBMA traveler, but they are carefully selected and matched to the interest of our travelers. They offer a well-rounded educational travel experience with much included at a "great value" and many of our travelers are devotees of these trips.
  • Because they are operated more than one time, the operations are tried-and-true and logistics often run very smoothly.
  • The carefully chosen and well-located hotels are usually 4-star hotels—not necessarily luxurious but with all the comforts expected.
  • The group size is often slightly larger to keep the cost down as well, however they are still "small group tours" with the maximum number of participants for most land tours set at 28. Often there are less than that and the group size ends up being much smaller. The minimum is usually 12.
  • There is often more free time built in.
  • Lectures are given by guest speakers a few times throughout the tour (as opposed to scholars accompanying the whole tour)
  • While tickets are purchased in advance for visits and all arrangements are well-coordinated, making the travel experience easy for you, Value Tours usually do not include visits to private collections or the entrée that some of our other tours offer.
  • They are usually for SBMA Members only; however, if we have low enrollment, we often have the opportunity to partner with other organizations in order to make the trip happen.
  • Reservations are taken online.
