Visitor Services Lead

The Santa Barbara Museum of Art is seeking a Visitor Services Lead – Full Time at 30 hours/week. This position supports the Visitor Experience and Store Manager in all aspects of the Museum’s Visitor Services activities including the operations of the two admissions desks, ticket reservations, and onsite membership sales; and coordinates the scheduling the Visitor Services Representatives. This position supports managing event ticketing and ticket sales issues, answers phone inquiries, troubleshoots visitor needs, increases membership sales, while fostering an environment of teamwork and professionalism and ensuring a superior experience for all museum visitors. The Lead will provide input to the Manager to develop and implement policies in coordination with other departments, support the Manager hiring for the department, their training, and ensuring an informed and knowledgeable frontline staff with regard to exhibitions, the permanent collection, and all museum programming and events. 

This position also supports coordination with the Membership department with ticketed for programs such as regional day trips and other events, coordinating with the Education department in scheduling groups with docent tours, and staffing public events when onsite sales are needed.

Three years’ hands-on customer service required with supervisory, hospitality, retail experience preferable, and proficiency with POS and RMS helpful. Effective interaction with diverse audiences, including staff, volunteers, members and visitors, while consistently demonstrating superior interpersonal and oral communication skills. Must work well under pressure, remain calm, analyze and resolve problems in a team environment while managing positive and harmonious museum and public relationships. Must effectively multi-task with strong attention to detail and a knowledge of art history and contemporary art preferred. 

  • The position reports to the Visitor Experience and Store Manager.
  • Schedule: Full Time at 30 hours/week (may flex as necessary) and requires regularly and timely attendance. Some evenings, weekend or holiday shifts may be required.
  • Salary hiring range between $20.00 and $20.50 DOE
  • Position is eligible for full benefits including medical, dental, vision, pre-tax plans, life insurance, and more.
