Museum Collectors Council

The mission of the Museum Collectors Council, founded by the Museum’s Board of Trustees in 1987, is to support the Museum’s mission of integrating art into the lives of people. The Council brings together both novice and experienced collectors at events both inside and outside the Museum.

The goal is to enable members to:

  • Experience a variety of art collections, collectors, artists, and art making settings to exercise their curiosity and stretch their horizons in appreciating the creative process;
  • Expand their personal knowledge of various genres of fine and decorative arts, as well as the various aspects of personal collecting;
  • Become part of a community of collectors with whom to share collecting experiences, resources, and learning through regular opportunities for informal conversation and communication.
  • Learn more about other Museum activities, such as Curatorial Support Groups, which can expand members’ learning and appreciation for the Museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions.

Council events are held four to six times per year. In addition to a Museum membership at the Advocate level, the cost of a MCC annual membership (for two people) is $75. There is a charge for each event. The MCC supports Museum programs through an annual donation generated by membership dues and proceeds from events.

For further information, or to become a member of MCC, please email mcc@sbma.net or call 805.884.6428.

A special thank you to all Steering Committee members for their hard work!
