Desert Canvas: A Journey through the Art Scene of Scottsdale & Phoenix with Dr. Julie Sasse

Discover the soul-stirring fusion of art and desert landscape in Phoenix and Scottsdale with an esteemed local curator. Immerse yourself in the rich heritage, world-class museums, private access to exquisite art collections, and wondrous sites like Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West. Be enchanted by special expert-led tours and artist encounters in this desert oasis, where art and nature converge in breathtaking harmony.

On this tour that is custom-designed and exclusive for SBMA Members, enter homes and artists’ studios when the weather in Arizona is at its best. Experience places not open to the public, top art and architecture, and hidden secrets that most visitors—and even residents—know nothing about. Highlights include:  Private home visits and private art collections, by invitation  Artists’ studios  Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West  Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art private tour with the Director and Chief Curator, and a sunset viewing of James Turrell’s Skyspace  Phoenix Art Museum private curator-led tour  A guided tour at the outstanding Desert Botanical Garden  Meeting with artists at Cattle Track Arts Compound  Cosanti, a marvel of architecture and windbells  Excellent restaurants that are destinations themselves

The tour will be based for four nights at the The Phoenician in Scottsdale, which Forbes Travel calls a “lush desert resort”. Located on Camelback Road at the base of the iconic Camelback mountain, the Luxury Collection Resort is near the shopping and cultural districts of Old Town Scottsdale and well-located to the destinations of the itinerary. Dr. Julie Sasse will accompany the tour as the Study Leader to give insight and offer connections throughout.
